Law partner co-chair of Public Sector Practice, roofer wins award

As the Tampa Bay and Sarasota regions experience a boom in population and development, the Shumaker law firm is selecting two partners to lead its growing Public Sector Practice.

Partner Andy Mayts will serve as public sector chair and partner Patrick Duggan will become co-chair. Mayts works in Shumaker’s Tampa office, and Duggan works in Sarasota.

Shumaker attorneys have decades of experience working with local government leaders and special districts as general counsel, bond counsel and special counsel.

Sarasota Memorial Health Care System has added the first dedicated head and neck cancer and microvascular surgeon to its First Physicians Group network and the team of surgical oncologists at the Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute.

Dr. Peter Vosler, MD, joins FPG from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Hospital. Vosler treats patients with both benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck involving the mouth, oropharynx, larynx, skin, parotid and thyroid.

Board certified in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and fellowship trained in Advanced Head and Neck Cancer and Microvascular Reconstruction, Vosler also specializes in microvascular reconstructive surgery and transoral robotic suture. His extensive research focuses on complex head and neck cancer surgery.

Al Singleton, of Alvin J. Singleton Roofing, has won the Bob Campanella Memorial Award, the highest honor of the Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association.

The award is presented each year to the FRSA member who is deemed most worthy of recognition for service to his or her community, the association and the industry.

The award was initiated in 1965 by the St. Petersburg Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors’ Association as a memorial tribute to the late Bob Campanella, owner of Ace Roofing Co., in St. Petersburg.

Suggestions are taken from the membership and submitted to a committee of previous Campanella Award recipients, who select the winner each year.

Singleton, of Sarasota started work at his father's roofing business in 1969. In 1977, when his father retired, Singleton took over the family business.

He is an elder and a deacon in his church, Newtown Gospel Chapel.

He gives back financially by supporting youth sports, scholarship funds and local human services organizations.

He currently sits on the Construction Industry Licensing Board in Sarasota and volunteers on additional boards and nonprofits, including the Women’s Exchange Board.

Singleton joined FRSA in 1989 and has served on the board of directors and the Codes, Roof Tile, Convention and Advisory Committees. He was FRSA president in 2010.

Endocrinologist Gayatri Sarkar, MD, has joined Intercoastal Medical Group’s Lakewood Ranch II Endocrinology office.

Sarkar earned a medical degree from the University of Calcutta Medical College, Kolkata, India, and a Master of Neuroscience degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York.

She completed her residency in internal medicine at the Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center, in the Bronx. From there, Sarkar completed a fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes and obesity at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland.

Mark Boger has joined Vistage Sarasota Chapter as a member of the CEO Peer Advisory Board. 

Boger is heading up a new branch office for MBA Engineers, in Sarasota.  He is an experienced structural design engineer specializing in the health care, education, commercial, hospitality, public safety/municipal sectors and multifamily construction.
